Publishing to YouTube and Troubleshooting

How it works

Mutant publishes finished videos to YouTube through Google's official OAuth access. You sign in to your Google account once, right from the app, and Mutant then uploads videos on your behalf — no third-party services, and your password never goes anywhere else.

Publishing is the last step of the pipeline. Everything that happens before it (voiceover, render, video generation) is covered in How the pipeline works.

Connecting your YouTube account

Sign-in happens right inside the app:

  • Open the YouTube tab.
  • Start the Google account sign-in — the official Google authorization window (OAuth) opens.
  • Confirm access. From then on, Mutant has permission to upload videos to your channel.

Access tokens go stale over time — that's normal. If uploads suddenly start failing with an auth error, just sign in again (see the FAQ below).

Upload queue and schedule

The YouTube tab is your publishing hub. It has three tools:

  • Upload queue — the list of videos ready to be sent to YouTube. Videos go out as slots free up.
  • Publish schedule — instead of publishing immediately, you can set a date and time when the video becomes visible to viewers.
  • Description templates — reusable text presets so you don't have to fill in a description by hand for every video.

A single account may have a limit on simultaneous uploads. If videos go out one after another instead of all at once, that's expected behavior, not an error.

Reading statuses in the Funnel

The Funnel tab shows the stage each video is at:

  • Waiting for render — the video isn't ready to upload yet (the file hasn't been assembled).
  • Queued — ready and waiting in line to be sent.
  • Uploading — the upload to YouTube is in progress.
  • Published — the video is live on your channel.

If a video sits in Waiting for render for a long time, the problem isn't with publishing — it's at the render step. In that case, see How the pipeline works.

FAQ / troubleshooting

The video is "private" on YouTube with no release date

That's expected if you put the video on a schedule. YouTube keeps it private until the assigned time, and without a set date it simply won't publish. Open the schedule in the YouTube tab and set a publish date and time.

YouTube says "processing"

This is YouTube's own conversion, not a Mutant error. After upload, YouTube re-encodes the video into different qualities — on longer videos this takes time. Just wait for processing to finish.

"Quota exceeded" error

The YouTube API has a shared daily limit on uploads. Once it's used up, new videos won't go through. There's one fix — wait a day for the limit to reset. Your videos stay in the queue and go out on their own once quota is restored.

Auth error / uploads keep failing

The OAuth token has most likely gone stale. Sign in again: re-authorize your Google account from the YouTube tab. Uploads will resume after you log back in.

Upload times out or gets blocked

Check your proxy. Timeouts and blocks during upload are usually a proxy-connection issue. Review your proxy settings and retry the upload.

Why aren't all videos uploading at once

Your account may have a parallel-upload limit. Mutant sends videos as slots free up — just wait your turn, it's normal.
